The hull is constructed of riveted iron and steel in a traditional Dutch style. Renovation was carried out in 2003 by Camper and Nicholson in Portsmouth and subsequent ultrasonic surveys have shown that the hull is in good condition and exceeds marine insurance requirements. The most recent ultrsasound was in May 2019 for the ES-TRIN renewal and found no issues. The ES-TRIN is valid until May 2026.
Appropriately specified navigation lights for the size of vessel are provided and are supplied from the 24V domestic battery bank
Maria was docked at Pendennis Superyachts in March 2011. Further lift-outs occurred in June 2014 at Carron Marine in Zelzate, Belgium, and May 2016 at Falcon Shipyard, Alphen aan den Rijn, Netherlands for the purposes of general checking, pressure washing and re-blacking/antifouling.
In May 2019 the ship was again lifted at Falcon for cleaning and an insurance and Es-TRiN ultrasonic hull survey and report. No issues were found and the hull, rudder and propeller stern gear were found to be in good order. All anodes were replaced, although only half eroded, and a new coat of antifouling added.
